SUSSEX
The Manor Watch is the law enforcing branch of the Manorial Court. It is made up of volunteer residents of the village and surrounding villages who take it in turns to patrol the Manor’s streets, keep the King’s peace when it is breached and enforce decisions of the Manorial Court. Constables of the Manor Watch are not to be confused with police constables (such as Sussex Police). The Manor Watch does not have the powers of the police and only exercise the enforcement of common law principles which all subjects of the Crown are commanded to obey anyhow in times of invasion, insurrection or riot (see the Gordon Riots and Lord Bowen’s deliberation on the Ackton Hall Colliery Riot for the maxim in common law). Anyone is welcome to volunteer; however, applications are especially welcome from those with law enforcement experience. Training will be provided. In the long term, there are prospects for a full paid salary.
