SUSSEX
In law there are three forms of knighthood: Crown honours, religious investitures and common law knighthoods. As knighthood was, and at all times remains, a vocation, the common law recognises Lords of the Manor and other knights to invest new knights. Whilst primarily ceremonial for Cuckfield, knights will receive exclusive privileges compared to other members of the Manor; however, will be expected to perform public duties (even though this is no longer strictly necessary under the Tenures Abolition Act 1660). This may include promoting the Manor of Cuckfield, serving on its Court or serving the Crown when called upon. In the long term, there will be opportunities for remuneration.
